History

Founded in 1794, First Presbyterian Church of Swannanoa is the oldest established congregation west of the Appalachian Range. It sits up on a hill in the middle of Piney Grove Cemetery, and overlooks a rapidly changing and growing Swannanoa Valley.

Our congregation has seen many seasons over the past 200 years. We have a vital and energetic congregation full of love and energy. We’re not a large church, but we have big visions for what God can do through us in Swannanoa and beyond.

Come experience with us the love and close fellowship that you will find only in a small congregation. Young or old, we all feel loved and cared for in our church home. We support one another, pray for one another, visit one another, and care for one another in our desire to be the Body of Christ, called to live and serve with the Love of Christ through our daily lives.

We have Sunday School programs for all ages, choir, handbells, and many opportunities to serve others in the Swannanoa Valley and beyond, including opportunities to serve our sister church in Guatemala.
